While our worship services are for all ages (see the explanation of our worship services here), we also recognize that children need age-appropriate instruction in ways that a sermon can’t always provide. So during the sermon portion of the service, children are invited (though not required!) to an Instructional Time where volunteers led by our Children’s Minister, Brooke Welborn, teach a lesson from the Dwell curriculum, a wonderful series of lessons that take children through the Old and New Testaments while connecting these ancient stories with kids’ daily lives. Each lesson, featuring child-friendly explanations of a Bible passage, is accompanied by a coloring page and/or a game.
After their lesson (and a snack*, and perhaps a bit of get-out-the-wiggles playing outside) they rejoin the rest of the congregation for the remainder of the service.
At Peace Hill, kids also participate actively in traditions like the lighting of the Advent candles, decorating the church building for Christmas, reading Bible passages aloud for worship services, creating bandages for the Baptist Medical Centre in Nalerigu, Ghana; delivering meals for those in need, ringing the church bell to begin our weekly service, and more.
Everyone who leads Children’s Instructional Time has completed a background check.
* Please inform the Children’s Church instructor about any allergies your child has. The instructor will take the children to their instructional time immediately after the announcements.
